Sainte-Croix / Les Rasses
Sainte-Croix and Les Rasses have a superb Nordic skiing area with a view on Lakes Neuchâtel and Geneva. The first “kandahar” ski bindings were manufactured in Ste-Croix.
Sainte-Croix and its tourist resort, Les Rasses, have been welcoming skiers for a hundred years. The ski area rises from 1,150 to 1,580m on the intermediate slopes, which are ideal for beginners and families. Ski tows can be found in 7 installations, including one for beginners. Built in the fifties, they have been progressively replaced by recent models. Today the ski area is equipped with snow cannons guaranteeing a given number of ski days even in winters when the snow is less plentiful.
The Nordic Centre at Les Rasses is a paradise for cross-country skiing, be it classic or skating, and for snowshoe walking. There are 7 cross-country runs, one of which is lit. The plateau of the Jura Balcony, from which the runs depart, offers an incredible panorama on the Alps, the Mont-Blanc beyond the sea of fog, or on Lake Neuchâtel. Parking and equipment rental facilities are located at the run departures.
By the bye, it was at Ste-Croix that the “kandahar” ski bindings were invented and manufactured. The product enabled the Reuge Company to compensate for the decrease in demand for music boxes.
Sainte-Croix and Les Rasses are accessible by road as well as by Travys public transport (owner of the panoramic Yverdon-les-Bains – Sainte-Croix train).
