Romainmôtier, Cluny priory
Romainmôtier, a small village and cluniac site, lives to the rhythm of the Romanesque Abbey Church: Sunday concerts, weddings and delicious pies served at Maison du Prieur.
The Romanesque abbey church, the oldest in Switzerland, was built by Cluny monks in the 10th century on foundations of previous buildings. Although stripped of its monastery in the Reform, this impressive monument attracts attentive visitors. As a place of rest, serenity and meditation, Romainmôtier provides particular wellbeing thanks to its exceptional decor skilfully built a thousand years ago.
Since 1969, Friends of Romainmôtier have organised music and hymn concerts in the Abbey church on Sundays in spring, summer and autumn. Within the same historic site is Maison du Prieur where the art of good food is cultivated: brunches and memorable evenings, one of which is the famous "Murders and mysteries" where guests do the investigating.
Romainmôtier is located 30 minutes from Yverdon-les-Bains.
